It’s time for our annual field trip! This year, 15 Japanese residents and 15 foreign residents will head to the coast and make chikuwa or satsumaage, explore Jodogahama Beach, and venture into Ryusendo Cave. Please download the guide below for details!

近年、北上市で多くの外国人が企業で働いていますが、「もっと北上のことが知りたい」「日本人と友達になる機会がないから残念」という外国人の声も聞こえています。外国人も日本人もお互いのことを理解しながら楽しく交流しませんか。国籍を問わず交流したい方、

Tabunka Kyosei no Tame No Kikkake Zukuri Project
(Creating a “Spark” for a multicultural Society) (Short name: Kikkake Zukuri Project)

Do you know about the Kikkake Zukuri Project? It’s our cooperative project between Japanese residents and foreign residents who live here in Kitakami and the surrounding areas. There will be various meet and greet events, where you’ll have a chance to have fun, chat with others who live in your area, and make friends while learning something that we hope will make your life easier here.

This year, we’ll have four parts, and soon we’ll be holding Part 2: “Sports of the World,” on July 14th, 2024 (Sunday) from 9:30 AM to 12 PM. Further details can be found on the bilingual poster.

6月2日（日）に、「多文化共生のための『きっかけ』づくりプロジェクト」の第1回「ごみの仕分けをしてみよう！」が開催されました。

外国人と日本人、合わせて30人が集い、自己紹介ゲームをしたり、ごみの仕分け方を一緒に確認。フィリピン、インドネシア、ベトナム、米国、英国、カナダ、中国の出身の外国人のみなさんは、母国と北上市のごみの仕分け方が異なることを理解し、またわからないときにはどのようにして調べるかも、実践しながら取り組みました。
最初はみな少し緊張していましたが、徐々に打ち解け合い、また会える機会を楽しみにしてくれていました。全4回シリーズの第2回目は、7月14日（日）に「外国のニュースポーツ」を体験します。

参加してくれたみなさん、ありがとうございました。次回の参加もお待ちしています！

On this week’s episode of Catch The Rainbow, the Kitakami International Assembly Hall’s radio corner on E&Be FM, we hear from Keiko on a national holiday about our Field Trip plans for later this year. We will head to the coast via bus to make “chikuwa” and “iikama,” then do one of two things: A boat excursion on the Sanriku Sea, or exploring Ryusendo Cave. Or possibly, both!

Field Trip Details:
When: 7/21 (Sunday), 8:30 (departure from Kitakami City hall) to 5:30 (ish)
Who: 30 individuals (around half and half Japanese residents and Foreign residents with priority for registered volunteers)
Cost: Around 4,000 (not yet exactly decided, paid by the first part of June)

On Catch The Rainbow #250, Keiko talks about going to Concord for the 50th anniversary of our sister-city relationship. We’ll depart Kitakami and head for Concord on the first of October and spend about a week there. Listen in for discussions of homestays and travel plans, and give us a call if you’re interested in joining us for this momentous excursion!
