In “Catch the Rainbow” Episode 211, we talk about English Square, nature, and TACOS! For the next English Square class, I’ll introduce Tex-Mex style tacos to the attendees. The best tacos use a soft corn tortilla shell. They’re difficult to find in Japan, but they’re worth it.

In episode 210, we talk about Vietnam in our “どんな国 (Don’na kuni?! What kind of country is ____?!”)” learning series. Our guest Linh guided guests through a Vietnamese cultural experience, and everyone made Bún chả, a beloved rice-noodle dish. Sweet and sour flavors mingle with fresh ingredients and herbs to create a perfect-for-summertime dish!

In this episode, we look back on the prior Sunday’s outing to the town of Masuda in Yokote, Akita. We made soba from scratch, went to the Masuda Manga Museum, and explored the nostalgic streets of Masuda.

On this week’s episode, we chat about a multiculturalism workshop at Kurosawajiri Higashi Exchange Center and the troubles that come along with living in a country where you might be a non-native speaker. Keiko shares a story about troubles on the way to a wedding in Korea years ago.

We talk about preparation for the upcoming Field Trip– we’ll be going to a Manga Museum in Yokote, and making our own soba from scratch, and it’s only 3000円, transportation to Akita included! History buffs will have fun to– there’s something called “Uchigura” in yokote– (regular kura are those white and black storehouses we see around traditional homes) a.k.a. Inner Kura.
